TEHRAN, April. 28 (IRCS) _ The Relief and Rescue Organization of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) have planned not to store food items any longer, but to provide the items to the affected people at disaster times.
The plan aims to prevent food items from being spoiled in warehouses after expiration, and is being implemented for the first time after 2 years of study in accordance with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) methods and setting up a specialized committee in this regard.
The IRCS Relief and Rescue Organization has planned to provide the items with newest production and expiry date to be delivered to the Operational Centers deployed in the place of disasters by capable companies for distributing them among the affected people.
When a disaster takes place, the needed food items are announced to the contractor company to provide food items in the shortest time to be distributed among the affected people.
“Also, food items in a limited amount are stored in warehouses monthly to distribute among affected people during the first 24 hours after disaster, in case of any deficiencies on the side of the procurer,” said Morteza Salimi, Head of the IRCS Relief and Rescue Organization.
“Some goods like tent, blanket, ground sheet, heating devices and kitchen sets with no consumption date are stored in Red Crescent warehouses to be distributed among the affected people when needed,” he added, saying that a minimum number of items is always stored to be used in emergency times.
Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) enjoys 60,000 relief workers and rescuers across the country that carry out relief services in disasters. Also, IRCS Relief and Rescue Organization have more than 550 warehouse.
