SHIRAZ, BANDAR ABBAS, July 22 (IRCS) _ A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck areas of the border of southern provinces of Fars and Hormozgan on Sunday, leaving no casualties, Iranian Red Crescent announced.
The quake shook Ruydar city, Khamir County, Hormozgan Province at 9:35 a.m. local time on Sunday.
"Following the incident, Fars and Hormozgan Red Crescent provincial branches immediately deployed 6 assessment teams and relief workers to the affected regions," said Morteza Salimi, Head of the Relief and Rescue Organization of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS).
The quake impacted 700 villages, most of which being disused areas. The quake was sensed in residential areas.
Initial assessments showed no damage or casualties in the earthquake-affected regions.
Due to the probability of aftershocks, Red Crescent forces were on standby in Hormozgan Province.
