Youth, Volunteers; Pioneers of Environment Protection

A five-year tripartite memorandum of understanding was signed between the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and Iran’s Department of Environment in 2014, which aims to educate and build capacity among young people and volunteers to promote the skills and methods of environmental protection in the society on national level. According to the MOU, the International Federation is committed to provide international technical and scientific resources, coordinating and cooperating with the region's national Societies and international organisations including the United Nations (UN). The first phase of the MOU was implemented in 2016 in the presence of representatives of the International Federation’s Climate Centre and environment sector of the Federation, Sweden and Kenya who attended the Green Response, directors and experts of the Iranian Red Crescent and it was decided that the project be piloted in several schools.

The pilot project was implemented in two girls’ schools and one boys' school in three different groups of young people aged 12-17 (30 people in each group) from 22 to 25 April.

Then, it was decided that an Environmental Instructor Training Course be held from 19 to 28 January 2020, which was postponed due to the outbreak of the Covid-19. The MOU was renewed and it was decided that the course be held in early 2021.
