TEHRAN, 12 December 2021 (IRCS) – A six-member EU delegation led by Ms. Sarah Rinaldi, Head of European Commission’s Middle East and Central Asia Office of International Partnerships, met with IRCS’ senior officials for International Division in Tehran on December 11 to discuss risk reduction in Iran’s disasters as well as crises.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed measure taken to respond to crises including drought in parts of Iran and challenges of Afghan refugees in Iran’s eastern borders after the recent unrest in Afghanistan.

The European Commission welcomed its partnership in Iran’s disaster risk reduction plans, said Hassan Esfandiar, IRCS Director General of International Operations and Humanitarian Programs.

“European Commission believes that Iranian Red Crescent enjoys coherent, contingency and strategic plans for dealing with disasters," added Esfandiar.

The EU delegation to Iran plans to visit some of international affairs’ offices in ministries and government agencies while the Red Crescent is the only NGO that arranged this meeting to seek participation with EU in the field of dealing with disasters.
