Iranian Red Crescent Combating Climate Change Effects

TEHRAN (IRCS) - "In addition to relief missions, the Red Crescent would like to cooperate with other organizations to prevent the effects of climate change in the country," said Dr Pir Hossein Kolivand, the President of the Iranian Red Crescent Society.

The Iranian Red Crescent has begun combating the effects of climate change in recent years by implementing Water Offering campaign in the provinces that are suffering from drought.

This year, During the MENA Humanitarian Leadership Conference in Cairo, Egypt, held on March 2022, Pir Hossein Kolivand, President of the Iranian Red Crescent, met with Ms Nevine El-Kabbaj, Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity, talking about volunteering activities in the field of the environment.

Ms El-Kabbaj asked the Iranian Red Crescent to share its experiences of responding to and preventing drought and floods caused by climate change at the Global Conference on Health and Climate Change, which will be held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, this year.

The Iranian Red Crescent has supported drought-affected people through campaigns such as Water Offering. This year too, this campaign will be held with a focus on providing safe and sustainable drinking water for villages affected by water stress,” says the IRCS president.

In addition to relief missions, the Red Crescent would like to cooperate with other organizations to prevent the effects of climate change in the country,” he added.

The 2022 Global Conference on Health and Climate Change will be held in Sharm El Sheikh on November 7-18.
