IRCS Receives more than 100 Int’l Cargoes to Combat Covid-19
TEHRAN, 5 May 2020 (IRCS) - Stressing the massive amount of supplies provided locally which allowed IRCS to combat the contagion without any recourse to foreign aids, IRCS president said: “112 international cargos have been donated to the Iranian Red Crescent from various countries to support the people affected by Covid-19.”
Dr, Karim Hemmati, the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) President, held his first press conference in Tehran ahead of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day (8 May), saying that “Working in the Red Crescent is difficult, but it also has many sweet moments, and I thank all the loved ones who are with us in this path.”
According to Mr. Hemmati, Iranians have deposited IRR 300,000,000,000 (over 7,142,000 US dollars) to IRCS bank accounts and its payment code to support the IRCS since the coronavirus emerged in the country. “We have delivered exactly the same amount to the needy,” added IRCS president.

Answering to China TV’s correspondent, IRCS president said that China was uniquely on the side of the Iranian people. “China's assistance was mostly in providing personal protective equipment such as masks, sanitizing items and scrubs, as well as diagnostic kits, and we would like to express our special thanks to China, which was unique to the Iranian people."
IRCS, ICRC Cooperate Closely during Corona Crisis
On collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Iranian Red Crescent president said: “Due to the global outbreak of the coronavirus, there is a close relationship between the Iranian Red Crescent and the International Committee of the Red Cross, and we have received help from the Committee to avoid the sanctions, but, unfortunately, it hasn't been effective so far.”
Distribution of 250,000 livelihood parcels in all provinces
According to the IRCS president, the Society has provided 250,000 livelihood packages for the needy across the country during covid-19 outbreak.

Furthermore, Barbara Rizzoli, Head of the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) Delegation in Tehran who had attended the press conference with the IRCS president, answered the reporters' questions.
Ms, Rizzoli said: “In the fight against Covid-19, the Iranian Red Crescent Society, along with the Ministry of Health and other responsible institutions, has undertaken important activities, from rapid diagnosis and screening to providing medical services and shelter. But the most important activity of this Society has been informing the public about health and treatment.”
She also said the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) had supported the Iranian Red Crescent Society as much as it could. “One of the contributions was the payment of 500,000 Swiss francs to the Iranian Red Crescent Society to fight the disease.”
