IRCS Distributes 2,000 Food Parcels to Corona-affected Households ‎

TEHRAN, 14 June 2020 (IRCS) – Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) plans ‎to distribute 2,000 food parcels to households with more than 5 members in ‎Tehran and Alborz provinces.‎

During a ceremony which was held in Tehran on 14 June, these food items were sent to the needy households who have been affected by Covid-19 in the central provinces of Tehran and Alborz.

These food parcels, include meat, rice, edible oil, etc. have been provided by cash contribution from Moms Against Poverty (MAP) which is a global non-profit organization in the USA and supports Nikgaman Jamshid Charity in Tehran, with the mission to nurture and educate underprivileged children to their fullest potential.

1,650 parcels in Tehran and 350 parcels in Alborz will be distributed.

“In the crisis of the spread of the coronavirus, as in the case of the imposed war, with the wise leadership of the Supreme Leader, a unique empathy was created in the country,” said Dr Karim Hemmati, Iranian Red Crescent’s President in the ceremony. “Through our efforts, we have been able to control the problems caused by this disease and manage the disease and its devastating  impact on the society, despite the economic challenges and the oppressive sanctions.”

Referring to 144 cases of international humanitarian aid to the Iranian Red Crsecent which are needed to fight Covid-19, he said that all items had been distributed in medical centres.

“Despite requests to open a financial channel to receive international cash donations to manage corona disease, we have received no assistance,” president of the Iranian Red Crescent added.

Volunteers and benefactors who join the humanitarian activities of the Iranian Red Crescent have provided 100 ventilators for patients with Covid-19.

After the ceremony, a number of parcels were immediately distributed in Varamin, Tehran province.
