Public Contributions to Corona-affected People beyond $27 m
TEHRAN, 23 June 2020 (IRCS) - Public contributions to the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) to support the patients affected by COVID-19 has reached IRR 1,150 billion (more than 27 million US dollars).
According to the Volunteers Organisation of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS), these contributions include IRR 320 billion (more than 7,619,000 US dollars) of cash and IRR 831 billion (more than 19,785,000 US dollars) of in-kind contributions since the beginning of Covid-19 outbreak in the country.
Red Crescent has distributed 242,000 hygiene packages among deprived people as well as 201,000 livelihood packages which were provided by public. Furthermore, 500,000 health packages have been distributed among special patients from public donations in coordination with the Ministry of Health.
IRCS volunteers have set up 960 workshops producing protective masks and hospital gowns for medical staff and have made 1,825,000 masks, 148,000 pairs of gloves and 81,000 pieces of clothing.
So far, 72,700 Volunteers of the Iranian Red Crescent have participated in raising public aids and implementing coronavirus prevention projects, according to Mohammad Nasiri, Head of the IRCS Volunteers Organisation.
IRSC volunteers also have sanitized 17,220 public spaces and streets throughout the country as well as 52,000 personal and public vehicles, including buses, taxis and sedans and 4,550 wagons in mass rapid transit, 100 homeless shelters, 44 prisons and 3,800 mosques.
So far, 1,416 suburb areas have been covered by the Red Crsecent projects to control Covid-19, added Nasiri.
The educational activities of IRCS on Covid-19 include sending more than 3,550,000 short messages as well as distributing 644,000 brochures, posters and infographics.
