YASUJ, May. 3 (IRCS) _ Red Crescent responded to an earthquake that struck Sisakht, leaving 133 injured people.
YASUJ, May. 3 (IRCS) _ Red Crescent responded to an earthquake that struck Sisakht, leaving 133 injured people.
A 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck Sisakht city in the south-western province of Kohgiluyeh and Boyerahmad, on Wednesday, 2 May, 2018 at 8:38 am local time. The tremor happened at the depth of 8 kilometers of the surface ground.
Even though leaving no deaths, the quake injured 133 people. 33 of the injured have been hospitalized and the rest received outpatient services.
Most of the injuries are reported to have been fractures or contusions caused by the victims rushing out of their houses to save their lives.
Also, the quake caused water supply cuts to 50,000 residents in villages around Yasuj.
Last night, the parks of Yasuj city were swarmed by citizens who spent the night in tents provided to them by Red Crescent.
"An emergency camp was set up by Red Crescent at Mehrvarzi Park for Yasuji families who feared staying in their houses over the night," said Amanollah Jahanbin, managing director of Kohgiluyeh and Boyerahmad Red Crescent branch.

Seven operational teams including 23 rescuers from Kohgiluyeh and Boyerahmad Red Crescent branch and nine teams including 27 rescuers from Isfahan Red Crescent branch were dispatched to the affected regions and provided relief services to the people.
Red Crescent teams are on stand-by. Assessment teams also have assessed 15 villages in Kohgiluyeh and Boyerahmad and Isfahan provinces.
