The UN Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Partnerships with the Middle East and Central Asia Rashid Khalikov and the Head of Regional Office of the Middle East and North Africa of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Iyad Nasr met and talked with Mahmoud Mohammadi Nasab, IRCS Secretary General in Iranian Red Crescent's headquarters on Monday, discussing various issues such as joint projects between IRCS and UN agencies based in Iran, emphasizing enhanced cooperation on disaster management, resilient society, education and research, health and treatment, etc.

During the meeting, IRCS Secretary General criticized targeting relief volunteers and medical centers in Yemen, saying: “Insecure situation  in Yemen, prevent National Societies, International Committee of the Red Cross, and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to bring food and medicine to Yemeni people.”

Regarding the presence of IRCS staff and volunteers in Yemen to render relief humanitarian services, he remarked: “We had in-depth talks with ICRC President and Vice-President regarding Yemen and voiced IRCS readiness to deploy treatment facilities and providing food items to 15 million Yemeni. But we haven’t seen any efforts so far to help us to enter this crisis and render humanitarian services.” He also asked for UN support in this regard.

Meanwhile, Iran’s government has provided 60 tons medicine for Yemeni people who are suffering from human crisis.

For his part, Mr. Khalikov described peace as the best solution for Yemen crisis, adding: “UN has access to Yemen so it can convey IRCS relief consignment to Yemen through Djibouti.”

Moreover, Mr. Iyad Nasr requested more close cooperation with IRCS and other Iranian governmental Organizations and stakeholders in disaster management.
