Half of Iran impacted by Snowstorm, Flood
TEHRAN, 19 Jan. (IRCS) _More than half of Iran’s provinces were impacted by snowstorm, flood, and inundation during the period between January 17 and 18, 2019. Volunteers of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) rendered relief services to over 6,000 affected people.

Two weeks after the first snow in Iranian winter, which fell in several provinces, numerous provinces were impacted by snowstorm once again. 19 provinces, including East Azarbaijan, West Azarbaijan, Ardebil, Isfahan, Alborz, Ilam, Tehran, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, North Khorasan, Khuzestan, Zanjan, Semnan, Ghazvin, Kurdestan, Kermanshah, Lorestan, Mazandaran, Markazi, and Hamedan were affected by a snowstorm.
According to IRCS Relief and Rescue Organization, relief workers offered essential services to 6,390 affected people in 86 mountainous arteries.
IRCS volunteers recovered 693 vehicles which were stuck in the snow in roads. Moreover, 240 travellers and people were sheltered in Red Crescent relief bases. Five injured people were also transported to nearby medical centers.
113 operational teams, including 395 rescuers and relief workers rendered services to the affected people in the provinces.

In addition, the provinces of Isfaha, Alborz, Khuzestan, Ghazvin, Golestan, Lorestan and Mazandaran were hit by flood and inundation. Red Crescent responded to the 21 affected towns and villages.
IRCS volunteers rendered relief services to 347 people as well as 40 residential units were pumped out water.
26 operational teams, including 104 rescuers and relief workers, offered relief services to the flood-affected people.
