ICRC Continuing Efforts to Open Financial Channel for Iranian Flood-Hit Families

Since the Iranian Red Crescent is not able to receive international cash contributions to support the flood-hit families due to the US sanctions, IRCS President Ali Asghar Peyvandi met the ICRC President Peter Maurer in Geneva on April 20 to discuss methods for the Iranian Red Crescent to be able to receive the international donations.

In a letter to the Iranian Red Crescent president, Mr, Maurer has emphasized that the International Committee of the Red Cross would continue negotiations to create a financial channel to transfer cash donations to Iran. As indicated in the ICRC president’s letter: We shall continue to negotiate for a financial channel to be opened for ICRC transfers to Iran,”

“We are hopeful of making progress and will keep you informed of developments.” the letter added.
