Swiss Envoy Appreciates IRCS for Relief Services in Kermanshah Earthquake

Iran/ Tehran/ IRCS _ January 10th _ The Swiss ambassador to Tehran described the relief services rendered by the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) to the quake-affected province of Kermanshah in western Iran as "distinctive".

 

Marcus Leitner, the Swiss Ambassador to Tehran, met and held talks with Head of the IRCS’s Relief and Rescue Organization Morteza Salimi on Wednesday 10 January 2018.

 

During the meeting, Mr. Salimi expounded on the organization's duties in managing incidents and disasters, saying, "The organization is in charge of the "relief and rescue" and "public training" working group of the country."

 

Describing the duties and activities of the fourteen members of the working group, he said: "Similar working groups have been formed in other Iranian provinces for more coordination among relief agencies across the country."

 

For his part, the ambassador of Switzerland to Tehran, Marcus Leitner, underlined the deadly earthquake in Kermanshah, and said, "the services provided by the IRCS relief workers to the quake-affected citizens were outstanding and laudable."

 

He asked about the coordination and cooperation of the Red Crescent Society's Relief and Rescue Organization with other government agencies, as well as the prevention and training of disaster response, and underlined the working group's significance, as it brings greater trust and confidence among all the members and aligns all the available apparatus for accuracy in their performances.

 

The Swiss ambassador further voiced his country's preparation to work with the IRCS on accidents and disasters, saying: "The Swiss state is always ready for humanitarian action."

 

The Swiss ambassador also visited the Relief and Rescue Organization's Emergency Operation Center.

 

According to the IRCS statute, the Relief and Rescue Organization is required to provide relief services in the event of natural disasters such as earthquakes, flood, etc. inside and outside of the country, provide first-aid services in accidents, plan and action to prepare specialized training for relief workers and personnel, and send assistance, relief and medical assistance to other countries, if necessary, and provide search and rescue services in accidents.
