Iran, Georgia to Increase Relief, health Cooperation

 

TEHRAN, May 16 (IRCS) _ The Red Crescent and Red Cross societies of Iran and Georgia are ready to expand relief and health cooperation.

Prof. Ali Asghar Peyvandi, President of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) and Ms. Natia Loladze, President of the Georgia Red Cross Society, met and talked at IRCS headquarters on May 16.

During the meeting, explaining the relief, health, treatment, youth and voluntary activities of the IRCS in national and international levels, Prof. Peyvandi said Iranian Red Crescent had been trying to respond to the needy no matter where and when.

“Iran is a disaster-prone country and given the fact that many of the incidents in the country need to be responded to, IRCS has proved very capable in relief and rescue,” remarked IRCS President.

He also referred to the membership of Iran and Georgia National Societies in the Governing Board of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and its effective role in IFRC’s decision making, and added: “The Georgian Red Cross enjoys good potentials, so the two societies could have synergy in responding to people in disaster times more effectively.”

Also in the meeting, Ms. Natia Loladze said that Iran and Georgia National Societies would work together closely and participate in many areas, given their membership in the IFRC Governing Board.

Underlining her visit to IRCS Relief and Rescue organization, the President of the Georgia Red Cross said, “I was very much proud that Iranian Red Crescent is very capable in relief fields to provide relief services to the affected people.”

Ms. Loladze also stated that Iran Red Crescent had been one of the first societies to offer support to Georgia Red Cross during disasters, adding that Georgia was ready to increase cooperation with Iran Red Crescent, as well as regional level.

At this meeting, the President of the Georgia Red Cross welcomed construction of a clinic or hospital based on rehabilitation or prosthesis by IRCS in Georgia.

President of the Georgia Red Cross will visit activities of the Iranian Red Crescent as well.
