Ecuadorian ambassador meets with IRCS President

TEHRAN, July 21 (IRCS) _ Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) is ready to bolster its ties with South America’s Ecuador.

Ecuadorian ambassador to Tehran Dr. Alejandro Ortega Almeidato met and talked with Prof. Ali Asghar Peyvandi, IRCS President, at Red Crescent’s headquarters here in the Iranian capital.

During the meeting, IRCS President expressed optimism that by signature of a new memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the National Societies of Iran and Ecuador, IRCS rehabilitation center in Kitu, the capital city of Ecuador, to expand more its humanitarian activities.

Iran’s Red Crescent and Ecuador’s Red Cross signed an MOU back in 2013, which expired in July. Now, the two National Societies are negotiating to renew the MOU.

“Once we wanted to open the rehabilitation center in Kitu, we have had consultation with the Ministry of Health in Ecuador. They advised us to open the center in Karslen area which is somehow a deprived area in Kitu. Now it is operational and is providing services to the people; it is necessary that Ecuador’s Government and Health Ministry support the center in order to scale up our services at the deprived region,” said Prof. Peyvandi.

He also stated that given the high priority of training topics for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), “Iran’s Red Crescent is ready to dispatch its trainers to Ecuador to train volunteers and staff of the Ecuadorian Red Cross or train them in Iran.”

For his part, Dr. Almeidato said he would do his best for extending the MOU between the two National Societies.

He also described the bilateral relations between Iran and Ecuador government well.

Since 2015, Iranian Red Crescent’s clinic and paraclinic has been active in Kitu, rendering treatment services to patients.
