IRCS to Send Medical Team to Iraq in Muharram

 

TEHRAN, Sept. 10 (IRCS) _ Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) will dispatch a medical team to neighboring Iraq next week to render services to pilgrims of the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (a.s.), the third Shia Imam, during Tasu'a and Ashura.

Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar, which begins on September 11 this year. In the tenth of Muharram, 61 AH, Imam Hussein (a.s.) was slain in the battle of Karbala. This year, Muharram 10, known as Ashura, is on September 20. Shia Muslims mark Ashura and mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (a.s.). They also mark Muharram 9 as Tasu'a.

Red Crescent plans to dispatch a 36-strong relief and medical team to Iraq a few days ahead of Tasu’a to support pilgrims. The team consisting physicians, neurologists, surgeons, orthopedists, nurses as well as relief workers.

The IRCS team will render medical services to pilgrims in 2 tents for 5 days,” said Dr. Seyed Ali Marashi, head of the IRCS Hajj and Pilgrimage Medical Centre.

Every year in Islamic occasions, Iranian Red Crescent deploys teams to Karbala to render medical services to pilgrims.
