IRCS, Ministry of Culture Sign MOU
TEHRAN, 31 July 2019 (IRCS) – The Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) and the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to raise public awareness on prevention and mitigation of natural and man-made disasters.

On the sidelines of the ceremony which was held at IRCS Headquarters on Tuesday evening, 30 July, to honor a number of Iranian actors and artists assisting Red Crescent’s relief activities during the March and April floods, Ali Asghar Peyvandi, Iranian Red Crescent President, and Seyyed Abbas Salehi, Iran’s Culture and Islamic Guidance Minister, signed the MOU which aims to enhance basic and standard training to the public to prevent and mitigate natural and man-made disasters through cultural and art groups.
Under the MOU, the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance has committed itself to provide suitable conditions for Red Crescent to participate in cultural and art events, join national studies on public readiness in probable disasters, establish a media committee aimed at media management in critical conditions after disasters, promote the spirit of peace and humanitarianism, provide public training and enhance voluntary life through cultural items and artworks, provide cultural and art places for rendering public training by Red Crescent and to assist cultural and art people affected by the disasters.
Furthermore, Red Crescent is committed to producing the content of the courses, participate in media plans which aim to prevent the effect of disasters, facilitate the presence of domestic and foreign reporters in natural and manmade disasters, provide equipment and staff for joint plans, run exercise trainings in the ministry’s divisions, provide specialized advices on standardizing the physical locations of the divisions to prepare for critical post-disaster situations, hold training courses for the Ministry’s executives and staff, render necessary advices in media to manage emergencies during and after major events, and support the production of cultural items and artworks in line with the objectives of the MOU.
Addressing the artists who had attended the ceremony, IRCS president said: “You are representatives of various groups of the cultural and artistic community who could be a powerful assistant for relief institutions for raising public participation in meeting the needs of the affected people.”
Lots of Iran’s cinema and television actors are a volunteer member of the Iranian Red Crescent, participating in the Society’s humanitarian plans particularly during major disasters such as earthquakes, floods, etc. to encourage people to donate their contributions to the Red Crescent in support for the affected people.
