Emphasizing close relations and mutual activities, the two sides also called for expansion of cooperation.
IRCS president referred to the impact of US sanctions on Iranian Red Crescent humanitarian operations, and called on the ICRC president to try to open the path for receiving foreign cash contributions, given the position of this international body, in order to enable the Iranian Red Crescent to continue its humanitarian activities in helping the affected people in Iran.
For his part, ICRC president emphasized that the sanctions should not impact humanitarian activities, based on ICRC principles, adding that the International Committee of the Red Cross comprehended the problems of the Iranian crescent and it tried their best to find a way to transfer foreign cash aids to Iran Red Crescent for the recent flood.
According to Mr, Maurer, ICRC plans to offer a 400,000 euros to the Iranian Red Crescent in order to support the country’s flood-affected people.
Because of the US sanctions on Iran, there is no way the Iranian Red Crescent can receive foreign cash contributions. Some countries and organizations have declared their readiness to send cash aids, but there is no way these aids can be sent to Iran, given the blockage of international financial channels by the US.
