The plans, mostly in the form of livelihood and financial contributions to vulnerable families, were implemented in all the Iranian provinces, and 4,769 IRCS volunteers partook in them from April to December 2018. The contributions also embraced needy patients.
“The contributions include donating medication and treatment costs, allowances for procurement of dowries, free examinations by volunteer physicians, donating education fees to needy individuals, setting up health tents, empowering widows or badly-guarded women, distributing food parcels among needy people as well as carrying out entrepreneurship projects,” said Roya Ramezani Nezhad, Acting Head of the Voluntary Affairs Office of the IRCS Volunteers Organisations. “112,408 needy people benefited from the voluntary plans.”
The Volunteers Organisation of the Iranian Red Crescent Society was established in 1959 with the objective to materialise and promote the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, to have better coordination and consistency of National Society’s activities to recruit, organise and integrate the activities and volunteer services to support the affected and needy people and vulnerable groups.
