A Century of Sincere Voluntary Service

TEHRAN (IRCS) - Coinciding with World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) celebrates its 100th anniversary.

On Sunday, May 8, the Society holds a special event in Tehran attending nearly 90 foreign guests including Francesco Rocca, the IFRC President, to mark World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day and the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Society. Also, many of the Iranian authorities are invited to the ceremony.

This week, the IRCS continues its schemes on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Society establishment with training exercises across the country.

Since 486 aid workers of the Society were martyred in the Iraq-Iran war, the Iranian Red Crescent will hold a scheme to mark their memories.

The President of the Iranian Red Crescent sent a message on the occasion of World Red Crescent and Red Cross Day.

Dr Pir Hossein Kolivand has written: “World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day is not a day for an institution but for marking human dignity. Dignity is an attribute that the Almighty Creator has given to human beings and no one can take it away from him. All human beings, regardless of color, race, creed or wealth, are described as dignified. Red Crescent Day is a day of respect for human dignity. It is a day of respect for those who have stood up to alleviate human suffering.”
