Bam: 17 years after massive Earthquake
TEHRAN, 26 December 2020 (IRCS) - 17 years have passed since an earthquake of 6.6 magnitude struck Bam City and in the eastern province of Kerman, Iran, killing more than 26,000 and injuring at least 30,000. On the occasion of the anniversary of this huge earthquake, throw a glance at humanitarian reconstruction operations in Bam.
After the Bam earthquake, a relief base in an area of 8,500 square meters with a capacity of six warehouses for relief activities was built in eastern Kerman.
After the Bam earthquake, 10 schools were built in Bam county with financial support of the Red Cross Societies of Italy, Ireland, Germany, Netherlands, Canada, Japan, Sweden and Hong Kong.
After the Bam earthquake, Red Cross Societies of Netherlands and Germany participated in the construction of Bam Rehabilitation Center, Bam Limited Surgery Center and Red Crescent building in Bam, Narmashir and Rigan Counties.
After the Bam Earthquake, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) built a Relief School in Bam and supported the families of victims via cash contribution.
The International Federation also set up a field hospital in Bam for one year and rendered medical services to the affected people.
