Beneficiaries who benefit from IRCS volunteers' humanitarian programs

The contribution of Iranian Red Crescent volunteers was significant during 2012 as they have participated in many different activities to render humanitarian services to 6,333,070 beneficiaries Volunteers Organization of the IRCS has received large number of voluntary services including cash and in-kind donations, blood donation from local people, IRCS staff and volunteers to meet beneficiaries' needs last year. These services were provided with direct support and contribution from volunteers to the voluntary projects and IRCS Volunteers Organization Service Programmes in four fields of skills, partnership, guidance and support in cooperation with donors and local NGOs. The volunteers' contribution was at the value of about IRR 729,713,071,390 equals to USD 30,404,711 consisting of cash donation, membership fees, in- kind donations to the earthquake affected people in Azerbaijane-Sharghi, Khorasane-Jonoubi and Bushehr provinces and flood affected people in Mazandaran province, the implementation of 1954 voluntary projects, the implementation of 278 joint projects with various NGOs as well as their contribution to the National Society programs all over the country in 2012. Farahnaz Rafe, Head of Volunteers Organization of the IRCS noted that the recruitment of 90,135 new members as volunteers done last year reached the total number of volunteers to 641,418. She added that one of the targeted programmes of Volunteers Organization is the training and increased capacity building of its members in different fields such as relief and first aid, basic and non-relief volunteer training courses. The Iranian Red Crescent Society benefits of both volunteers and youth organizations responsible for the recruitment, training and retention of youth and volunteer members.
