Building capacity of the Iranian Red Crescent by OCAC

A training workshop on Organisational Capacity Assessment Certificate (OCAC) was held in Tehran, today, September 14 in close cooperation with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). In opening ceremony, Ali Asghar Ahmadi, Secretary General of the Iranian Red Crescent pointed out that OCAC, launched in 2011, is one of the important process which plays a key role in helping National Societies develop and grow by identifying their own strengths and weaknesses. “By developing OCAC process, we will find our strengths and weaknesses in the Iranian Red Crescent which helps us realize what we need exactly to provide better humanitarian services to the needy,” he also added. Expressed his appreciation to Mohammad Shahabeddin Mohammadi Araghi, Under Secretary General for the Red Crescent International Affairs and IHL for coordinating and facilitating the communication for organizing OCAC process in the Iranian Red Crescent, Ahmadi said that the indicator for a countrywide self-assessment is not far from the 5-year development plan of the Iranian Red Crescent as Building the strengths and capacities of National Societies is at the core of the IFRC’s Strategy 2020. 20 participants from various parts of the Iranian Red Crescent take part in these three day workshop which will be conducted by 2 facilitators from the IFRC. Assessments such as these not only allow the Iranian Red Crescent participants to get a better picture of how the National Society works as a whole, but they foster greater collaboration and discussion between different components of the organisation – between branches and headquarters, and between volunteers, staff, senior leaders and governance. They also lead to concrete follow-up actions as the process allows the Iranian Red Crescent to focus on self-identified weaknesses, which can either feed into its 5-year development plan or can form part of the strategic planning process.
