Enhancement of the Iranian Red Crescent Society Efforts for the Promotion of the International Humanitarian Law (IHL)
 
Mr. Mohammad Abbassi, Secretary General of the Iranian Red Crescent Society met with Dr. Olivier Martin, new appointed Head of the ICRC Mission here in Tehran on Tuesday, 20 August 2013.
On the commencement of the meeting, the Secretary General affirmed the high level bilateral cooperation between IRCS and ICRC is continued and added that the Iranian Red Crescent Society benefits from all its capacities for the promotion of the International Humanitarian Law (IHL).
He expressed that the IRCS is ready to use the ICRC experiences and services in the establishment of the Regional Logistics Base in Iran.
Dr. Abbassi pointed to the abilities of the IRCS Physical Rehabilitation Services and long term cooperation between two organizations in this field. He continued that with the establishment of Rehabilitation Training Network, the IRCS will have the good effects and achievements in the region as the ICRC partner.
Also, he stated that at the time being, the IRCS Higher Educational Institute and Educational Research Center has organized the various international educational courses for the National Societies of Sudan, Sierra Leon, Iraq, Lebanon and etc. and we welcome the joint cooperation with ICRC in the educational activities as well as the conference of the International Humanitarian Law in Islam with the presence of all Islamic religious.
On the other hand, Mr. Martin stated his satisfaction to return to Iran after the year of 2003 for resuming of his new mission and hoped more and good cooperation between two organizations in future.
Meanwhile, he affirmed the extension of the cooperation standards in the fields of the training of mine risks, RFL, immigration, and physical rehabilitation.
At the end, Mr. Martin added that ICRC does the best in cooperation with IRCS in Orthopedic Physical Rehabilitation and sharing knowledge on staff on loan as well as the previous joints cooperation.
