IRCS Celebrates World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day

TEHRAN, 8 May 2020 (IRCS) – Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) ‎celebrated World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day by launching a photo ‎exhibition over the Society’s humanitarian cause called “A Century with the ‎Public; one year with the Virus”.‎

The exhibition opened in the presence of IRCS president, ‎IFRC Programme Coordination and Cooperation manager for Iran and head of the ICRC Delegationn on the sidewalk of the IRCS’ Peace Building in Tehran on May 8.

On the occasion of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, the Iranian Red Crescent marks the event during one week with various programmes.

Furthermore, Dr Karim Hemmati, IRCS President, Atta Durrani, ‎IFRC Programme Coordination and Cooperation manager for Iran and Daniel Munoz-Rojas, Head of ICRC Delegation in Tehran responded to reporters’ questions in a joint press conference.

This year, the Society unveils various projects, including opening of 5,400 Khaneye Helal (literally, Red Crescent House), donating relief vehicles to provincial Red Crescent branches and five ambulances to the provinces which were affected by Iran’s widespread floods in 2019. These ambulances were donated from Kuwait to the Iranian Red Crescent.

“The commemoration of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day and Red Crescent Week is a symbol of honoring the spirit of empathy and cooperation of all human beings with different beliefs, nationalities, colors and races who help their fellow human beings in various crises and natural and man-made disasters. Especially in the last two years, when the crisis of the Coronavirus pandemic had affected all the people of this planet, everyone became more and more aware of the humanitarian objectives and slogans of The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement,” wrote IRCS president in a message of congratulation.
