IRCS Distributes Food Parcels in 4 Provinces under Water Offering Campaign
TEHRAN, 14 October 2020 (IRCS) - Iranian Red Crescent has offered health services and livelihood packages to the needy families in four provinces suffering from drought and livelihood challenges.
Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) implemented National Campaign of Water Offering with the aim of combating the consequences of dehydration and supporting the health of the less privileged people in the four drought-stricken provinces of Sistan and Baluchestan, South Khorasan, Kerman and Hormozgan from September 5 to October 12.
Iranian Red Crescent pursued three areas, namely, livelihood support, health services (with focus on the coronavirus) and dealing with water tensions by deploying tankers, water purifiers and pipelines to ensure people’s access to safe drinking water during this year’s Water Offering Campaign. The campaign was held for the third year in a row in the southern and southeastern provinces which are fighting water shortage and drought.
Furthermore, the Society distributed 6,302 food parcels among the needy, provided free visits for patients, and handed out free medicine to them. Youth members and volunteers of the Red Crescent also provided psychological support and Coronavirus prevention training for people.
Speaking to Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Deputy of the Iranian Red Crescent’s Volunteers Organization Vahid Salimi said: “All volunteers and members of the Red Crescent across the country worked to raise cash and in-kind contributions from the people during the National Campaign of Water Offering. The sums will be spent on improving the livelihood of the people in the four drought-stricken provinces.”
160 Red Crescent’s volunteer physicians and paramedics also participated in the campaign to treat patients in the provinces.
