IRCS Marks 100th anniversary

TEHRAN (IRCS) - The ceremony for the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Iranian Red Crescent Society was held in Tehran on May 8.

Many of the Iranian authorities and foreign guests including Francesco Rocca, the President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and Robert Mardini, Director-General of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC),  attended the ceremony.

“The Federation is strongly committed to continuing its support for the Iranian Red Crescent Society,” said the IFRC president

Emphasizing that there are few National Societies and releif organizations in the world that have the authority and popularity of the Iranian Red Crescent, Mr. Rocca added: “The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, is very proud of the Iranian Red Crescent as a valuable member. The contribution of the Iranian Red Crescent is extremely valuable and its position is very respectable.”

During the ceremony, the Florence Nightingale Medal was awarded to Dr Naser Emadi, an Iranian Red Crescent volunteer dermatologist who has provided many voluntary services to patients in African countries.

Furthermore, a number of the IRCS donors were appreciated.

At the end of the ceremony, IFRC president and representatives of the Turkish, Kuwait and Lebanon National Societies appreciated Dr Pir Hossein Kolivand, the President of the Iranian Red Crescent.
