IRCS President Pays Tribute to Bam Earthquake Victims
KERMAN, Dec. 26 (IRCS) _ The President of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) paid tribute to the victims of the 2003 Bam earthquake.
KERMAN, Dec. 26 (IRCS) _ The President of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) paid tribute to the victims of the 2003 Bam earthquake.

On the anniversary of the 2003 deadly earthquake in Bam, Kerman Province, Prof. Ali Asghar Peyvandi and a number of the secretaries general of the Iranian Red Crescent attended Bam Cemetery, called Behesht-e Zahra, to lay a wreath at their memorials.
“I’m glad to be among you, the patient people of Bam,” said IRCS President during a ceremony which was held in the presence of the families of the victims of the earthquake.
Peyvandi appreciated all who assisted IRCS’ relief workers to offer relief services to the victims, adding that Bam Earthquake was a great sadness that affected not only Bam, but also the country and even the world.
An earthquake of magnitude 6.5 struck the city of Bam at 5:26 am on December 26, 2003. At least 26,000 people were killed and 30,000 others were injured. Approximately 85% of the city was destroyed. Health facilities and administration buildings collapsed, both in the city and surrounding villages.
