IRCS efforts in Sistan and Baluchestan quake

The Iranian Red Crescent Society announced its preparedness for the proper sheltering and emergency nutrition of the earthquake affected people in Sistan and Baluchestan Province.

On Tuesday, 16 April 2013, an earthquake measuring 7, 7 on Richter scale shook Saravan city of Sistan and Balouchestan province in the southeast of Iran, bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan. According to Tehran Seismological Center, this earthquake hit the region on 15:14 local time (11:44 GMT).

Based on the preliminary assessment reports carried out by 50 members of assessment teams and operational forces, about 15 villages of Gosht region and 10 villages of Saravan area were the most earthquake stricken districts. Reportedly, the affected region is not a dense populated area and a number of houses suffered slight damage. Up to now, one dead person and seven injured persons reported following this quake.

The relief and medical teams together with 40 ambulances have been dispatched to the affected regions and are at the affected areas. The required food items, water and necessary commodities have also been distributed among the beneficiaries.

Managing Director of the Red Crescent Society of Sistan and Baluchistan branch said that, the IRCS Relief teams are on the scene to provide sheltering and emergency nutrition services for the affected people in districts in case of the probable occurrence of aftershocks in Saravan city.
