More than 100 participants from 40 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies of the Middle East and North Africa and beyond will participate at the 8^th MENA Conference from 21^st to 24^th April 2013 in Tehran

In a press conference held on Tuesday dated 16 April 2013, Mr. Mohammadi Araghi, IRCS Under-Secretary General for International Affairs and IHL emphasized that more than 100 participants from 40 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies of the Middle East and North Africa and beyond would participate at the 8^th MENA Conference from 21^st to 24^th April 2013 in Tehran.

Participants will be from different countries such as Germany, Austria, Spain, Switzerland, Norway, Netherland, Japan, UK, Sweden, Demark, Taiwan and countries in the Middle East and North Africa region as well as a number of participants from international humanitarian organizations.

He continued that such a conference at the MENA region is frequently organized biannually based on the IFRC statute and this conference is the result of the decision at 7^th conference in Abu Dhabi where the Iranian Red Crescent elected as the host for the 8^th conference in Tehran.

Mr. Mohammadi Araghi added that the issues related to the disaster response, youth, volunteers and women for promotion of peace, friendship and non-violence community would be discussed during the conference and the different national societies will share their experiences especially some issues in the presence of the President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

Following his speech, Mr. Mohammadi Araghi pointed that the status of the Iranian Red Crescent has definitely been promoted at the regional and international levels and our Society had an important role in relief and rescue provision to the flood affected people in Pakistan and the drought hit victims in Somali in recent years.

At the end of his speech, he added that the representation of the capacities of the Iranian Red Crescent and experience sharing among all participants in the various fields such as disasters in the recent regional challenges can be the most essential achievements of the conference and attract the attention of the partakers on the abilities of the Iranian Red Crescent in the organization of such a significant event.
