IRCS services for the injured in crush during hajj

131 Iranian pilgrims have been killed and at least 86 other pilgrims were injured in Thursday's crush in Mina, on the outskirts of the holy city of Mecca during the annual Hajj pilgrimage

131 Iranian pilgrims have been killed and at least 86 other pilgrims were injured in Thursday's crush in Mina, on the outskirts of the holy city of Mecca during the annual Hajj pilgrimage. According to Saudi Arabia's civil defence, the death toll continued to rise. Following the incident, a number of the injured immediately have been evacuated to different medical centres of the Iranian Red Crescent in the Mina region and Mecca city.   Dr. Seyed Amir Mohsen Ziaee President of the Iranian Red Crescent stressed on the treatment of the injured in the medical centres of the Iranian Red Crescent in Saudi Arabia and said that the Iranian Red Crescent Society is also ready to provide medical services and treatments to Iranian and non-Iranian victims of the recent incident in Iran.   "Whilst we are keeping our constant contacts with the Saudi Red Crescent Authority, the Iranian Red Crescent is despatching a delegation from Tehran to Mecca to further monitor the situation and sympathise with the victims and survivors whilst the Iranian Red Crescent medical centres and teams are rendering their services to the injured and the affected pilgrims in the best way," Dr. Ziaee noted. "The Iranian Red Crescent is also ready to deploy medical and nursing teams to Saudi Arabia in case of need to serve the injured and needy people,"   He also referred to Red Crescent health care centre in Mecca, a temporary clinic in Mina, a medical centre in Medina city and attending at least a physician in each Iranian pilgrim caravan, and said that the Iranian Red Crescent is enjoying the presence and humanitarian services of 500 staff and volunteers including experienced doctors, nurses, relief workers and paramedics but in the current situation Red Crescent medical and relief forces are gathered in Mina and Mecca to provide required treatments and services. He added that among the injured, some need to have more treatment services, some critically injured and others have problems such as broken bones.   In close coordination with hospitals in Saudi Arabia, the Iranian Red Crescent's humanitarian workers are checking the medical centres to identify the Iranian victims and injured. President of the Iranian Red Crescent also mentioned that one of the problems is missing pilgrims who did not come back to their caravans so far and it is not clear that they are admitted in Saudi hospitals or have lost their lives.   Mina is where pilgrims carry out a symbolic stoning of the devil by throwing pebbles against three stone walls. It also houses more than 160,000 tents where pilgrims spend the night during the pilgrimage.
