Light Earthquake jolts Esfarayen
A light earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale strikes 26 kilometres (16 miles) from Esfarayen, a city in North Khorasan Province in Iran on Sunday, 30 August 2015. The temblor was detected at 19:08 pm local time. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 12.73 km (8 miles) below the earth’s surface.
Dr. Nasser Charkhsaz, Head of Red Crescent Relief and Rescue Organisation of the Iranian Red Crescent Society reported that 3 assessment teams were immediately deployed by North Khorasan provincial branch of the Iranian Red Crescent Society to assess the situation in the affected areas following the occurrence of the earthquake.
He continued that Red Crescent assessment teams were immediately deployed to the villages of Bidouaz, Red Fort, Serkanlou, Perkanlou, Hassan Abad and Erdagan. "Except for a few minor cracks in the wall of two rural houses, no loss of life and property has been reported so far following the late earthquake in North Khorasan Province," said Dr. Charkhsaz.
