National drug abuse prevention efforts by Youth Organisation
Coinciding with the International Day Against Drug Abuse on 26 June, Youth Organisation of the Iranian Red Crescent will organise a national campaign on "No to drug addiction" by forming a human chain in the main squares of cities, with the slogan of "Caution, addiction is near" and "Think about health, but not to drugs". "To make community environment healthy from disorders caused by addiction to drugs, to make a health culture, to use the capacity of youth member for the prevention of addiction and to make plan for the implementation of addiction prevention activities will be amongst the most important objectives of the campaign," said Amir Lalegani, Deputy Head of Youth Organisation for University Students. He also added that provincial and district officials, sport, cultural and academic authorities of the provinces would take part in the campaign on "No to drug addiction". "We will also try to closely make adolescents and youth members familiar with the harms and damage of drug use through dialogue" continued Lalegani. "Banner installation and tent set-up in the main squares of cities and youth organisation, brochures and posters distribution amongst all participants with the subject on the familiarisation of drugs and its harms and placards carrying by SAHAB teams of Youth Organisation will be amongst the implementing activities of the campaign" stated Deputy Head of Youth Organisation for University Students. Referring to the signed MoU between Red Crescent Youth Organisation and the Iranian Drug Control Headquarters, Lalegani said that according to the memorandum of understanding between two organisations, several training workshops on drug prevention have been held in various provinces for youth members so far and such training courses would vigorously continue more in the future.
