RASHT, Jun. 16 (IRCS) _ Heavy rain and landslide killed 2 women and a child in Kakroud Village of Eshkevarat region in Iran’s northern province of Gilan. Red Crescent teams and a relief chopper have been deployed to the region.
Around 5 p.m. on Friday, June 15, a severe shower hit Eshkevarat region, eastern county of Roudsar, Gilan, for 20 minutes. The incident caused flood and several hundred of meters of landslide in the detour of Rahim Abad to Lashkan village and the rural artery to Kakroud.
Four people, including 2 women, a man and a boy, are reported to be missing by the incident. The flood devastated 4 village houses on the river bank. The death of 3 people has been confirmed so far. The locals say the flood took away some vehicles belonging to tourists.
On Friday evening, Red Crescent relief teams from Roudsar, Amlash and Langarud were dispatched to the region.

Citing that more than 10 Red Crescent operational teams and a relief chopper have been sent to the area in response to the incident, Mahdi Valipour, managing director of Gilan provincial Red Crescent branch, said: “A Red Crescent Rapid Response team from the provincial branch is in the region at present and search operation is ongoing by the chopper.”
Most of the fatalities and destructions in Kakroud were caused by the landslide.

The flood has severely damaged farms and is forecasted to have wreaked havoc on hazelnut and walnut farms. Blockage of arteries to Eshkevarat Olya has made relief efforts more difficult.
