Mr. Gregory Vickery, Chairman of the Standing Commission of the International Red Cross & Red Crescent Movement had a meeting with Dr. Abolhasan Faghih, President of the Iranian Red Crescent Society on Saturday 20 April 2013.
 
Dr. Faghih, the IRCS President pointed to the large scale activities of the Iranian Red Crescent Society inside & outside the country and the importance of training of the youth members & volunteers and added that the IRCS has an active presence in international fields, running 29 permanent medical centers.
Dr. Faghih also mentioned that responding to international disasters such as Japan's tsunami is on the agenda of the Society and added that the IRCS is quite prepared to participate in the forthcoming General Assembly and Council of Delegates meetings which will be organized in Sydney, Australia as well as its side meetings. This MENA conference can be an introductory meeting for Sydney meetings.
Pointing to the cooperation of the Iranian Red Crescent Society with the International Federation MENA and Asia Pacific Zones, Faghih said that a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with the IFRC on urban disasters in big cities. The Iranian RC has also concluded some joint programs with the International Committee of the Red Cross which are ongoing smoothly.
Mr. Vickery, Chairman of the Standing Commission of the International Red Cross & Red Crescent Movement expressed its sympathy with the earthquake affected people, remarked the activities of the Iranian Red Crescent Society as being suitable and effective. He added that the Movement's Standing Commission is following up two main objectives. The First objective is to set up legislation & disciplinary in various parts of the Movement, leading to a coordination which gives the Movement a perspective as being efficient and reliable humanitarian organization. Second objective is organizing global meetings for achieving maximum coordination. He also invited Dr. Faghih and the Iranian RC delegation to participate in Sydney meetings.
Pointing to the well-known capacity and capability of the IRCS all over the world, Mr. Vickery invited the Iranian Red Crescent Society to use its capacities & capabilities in rendering relief services to other countries.
Mr. Vickery pointed to the world's biggest humanitarian crisis in Syria and added that Syrian issue is expected to be one of the subjects which will be discussed during the Sydney meetings from different aspects.
