Welcoming Ceremony of New IRCS President
TEHRAN, 13 April 2020 (IRCS) - Iranian Red Crescent president said that in disasters the only thing that gives people hope is empathy and service to fellow human beings in trouble.
The introduction ceremony of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS)’ President Karim Hemmati was held in the presence of First Vice-President Es'haq Jahangiri at IRCS’ Peace Building on 13 April.
“In the years that I served in the Red Crescent, there have been incidents and accidents that have led to many experiences,” said IRCS president, “but in disasters the only thing that gives people hope is empathy and service to fellow human beings who are in trouble.”
Dr, Hemmati emphasized that the Iranian Red Crescent was ready to provide livelihood packages for 100,000 households from local sources and public contributions from the two million people who are not covered by any institution and have lost their jobs.
“The Red Crescent has pledged to distribute livelihood packages to 100,000 households, but with the participation of humanitarian people we are ready to increase the packages to 200,000,” added IRCS president.
Furthermore, stressing the need to minimize the consequences of the COVID-19 outbreak, Iran’s First Vice-President Es'haq Jahangiri said: “The Red Crescent can be a link between the people and the injured, considering that it is one of the most trusted institutions.”
Referring to membership of millions of volunteers in the Iranian Red Crescent, Dr, Jahangiri added: “This voluntary presence is a valuable issue, which is why the Red Crescent appears on the scene in the first moments of any event that is the most difficult, and the people who witness this effort and services trust Red Crescent.”
Dr. Hemmati was previously Deputy of Parliamentary Affairs of Iran’s Health Ministry.
He was also managing director of the Ilam provincial Red Crescent branch from 2002 to 2007.
As an associate professor of Anesthesiology at university, Dr. Hemmati has held various posts in the medical field in the country.
Dr. Hemmati received a fellowship in ache diagnosis in 2014 from the Iran University of Medical Sciences and an Anesthesiology specialist board from the same university back in 2005-7. IRCS president also has a Ph.D. in general medicine from Tehran University of Medical Sciences.
He is also a Faculty Member of the Iran University of Medical Sciences.
