Red Crescent's Health Caravans in Drought-Affected Areas of Sistan and Baluchestan

 

ZAHEDAN, Aug 5, (IRCS) _ Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) dispatched 19 health caravans to cities of the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan which are affected by drought and serious shortage of water.

The caravans consist of volunteer specialized doctors of orthopedics, cardiology, neurology, obstetrics, ophthalmology, dentistry, and surgery who render free health and treatment services to deprived people for one week.

Arrangements have also been made to set up field hospitals and provide medicine for widespread diseases,” said Habib Dargahi, head of IRCS Volunteers Organization.

 

IRCS President Launches Water Offering Campaign

Iranian Red Crescent has commenced a “Water Offering Campaign” across the drought-affected regions in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, collecting cash contributions and in-kind offerings from the public (donation of water tank or water bottles) to improve region's water conditions and livelihood of the local people. IRCS President Prof. Ali Asghar Peyvandi arrived in the province on Sunday to officially launch the campaign.

Thanks to the campaign, a total of 1,270 water tanks have been stations throughout northern areas of the province. The tanks have capacities of 1000, 2000, and 5000 liters and will supply water to 502 villages. Furthermore, the campaign entails distribution of over 50,000 food packages among the people affected by the drought.
