Nicaragua Delegation Meets with IRCS President

TEHRAN, 11 August 2019 (IRCS) – A high-profile delegation of the Republic of Nicaragua, headed by the country’s Economy Minister Ivan Costa, held talks with the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS)’s President Ali Asghar Peyvandi on Sunday, 11 August.

During the meeting, which was held at IRCS Headquarters in Tehran, Prof, Peyvandi described IRCS activities in the fields of relief and rescue, volunteering, youth, and health, saying: “In recent years, without considering race and religion, Iranian Red Crescent has rendered humanitarian aid to Pakistan flood, Somalia famine, the displaced people in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, Nicaragua flood, etc. and has launched health and medical centers in various countries in South America, Africa and Asia.”

The IRCS president also said that the Iranian Red Crescent was ready to cooperate with Nicaragua in holding relief training courses as well as rehabilitation activities.

Iranian Red Crescent’s specialized polyclinic started working in the Nicaraguan capital, Managua, in May 2011, serving 350,000 people for internal diseases, pediatrics, gynecology and psychology.

Pointing to Iran activities in the field of peace, Nicaragua Economy Minister appreciated Iranian Red Crescent’s polyclinic in his country.

Furthermore, Mr. Ortega, Assistant to the Nicaraguan President, appreciated the Red Crescent of the Islamic Republic of Iran for its aid to Nicaragua over the years, saying: “Our country needs more specialties including cardiology, urology, orthopedic surgery, ophthalmology, kidney and urinary  which we think can be met with the help of the Iranian Red Crescent.”

He also asked the IRCS president to prepare a three-year memorandum of understanding for initiation of permanent cooperation between Iranian Red Crescent and Nicaragua.

Moreover, Mr. Baltodano, ambassador of Nicaragua to Iran, and Mr. Lopez, Assistant to the Nicaraguan President thanked the humanitarian activities of the Iranian government in Nicaragua and called Iran as Nicaragua brother.

At the end of the meeting, welcoming the Nicaraguan government representatives’ demands, IRCS president called on the Nicaraguan Red Cross to provide a list of its needs and announce them to the Iranian Red Crescent, for the formulation of the MOU.
