The Iranian Red Crescent teams participated in a relief operation as a passenger train, with 250 people on board, was derailed in southeastern Iran on Wednesday, 25 September.
At 16:20 local time, a Zahedan-Tehran passenger train was derailed in Shuru region in the Kurin district in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, killing four passengers (including a woman and three men) and injuring 35 others.
Following the incident, the Sistan and Baluchestan provincial Red Crescent branch dispatched a helicopter and eight teams to the spot of the accident, said Morteza Salimi, Head of the IRCS Relief and Rescue Organisation.
The relief teams, including Red Crescent and other relief organizations, transported the injured passengers to medical centers. The Red Crescent’s helicopter transferred eight injured passengers with severe conditions to Zahedan.
