Following the incident, Dr Pir Hossein Kolivand, the President of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, sent a message to Mykola Polishchuk, President of the Ukrainian Red Cross, on June 8, and declared that the IRCS was ready to assist the Ukranian people and Red Cross in this humanitarian operation.
The full message of the IRCS President reads as follows:
“The explosion of the huge Kakhovka dam in the south of Ukraine has caused many people in the surrounding villages to leave their places of residence, and this tragic incident has affected the lives and health of innocent people, humanitarian losses, and environmental damages.
According to the basic approaches of the Islamic Republic of Iran, based on a humanitarian perspective, including protecting the lives of innocent people and reducing their suffering, the Red Crescent Society of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as a humanitarian entity and a member of the International movement of Red Cross and Red Crescent declares its readiness to deploy assistance to the affected people of Ukraine and prevent endangering affected Ukrainians.
Hence, the IRCS is ready to deploy the necessary relief items and specialized operational teams to help the people affected by this disaster in the south of Ukraine in the shortest possible time.”
