IRCS is looking for a mechanism to reduce the impact of sanctions on humanitarian operations

TEHRAN, 5 March 2023 (IRCS) - Under Secretary General of the International Affairs and IHL Division in the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) attended in IFRC Network Humanitarian Diplomacy Forum held in Geneva on 2-3 March.

In this forum, Behnam Saeedi said: “Joint cooperation and coordination to meet the urgent needs of the affected people by natural and man-made disasters around the world, further cooperation to strengthen operational measures in migration routes with emphasis on increasing the role and level of authority of national Societies, are requirements that can accelerate achieve humanitarian goals,”

Referring to the Western sanctions against Iran, he pointed out that this had negative effects on the Iranian Red Crescent's humanitarian activities. “We continue to insist on creating a mechanism to reduce the adverse effects of sanctions on the humanitarian actions of the Red Crescent in our country, and we appreciate the cooperation of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement for this purpose.”

Saeedi said that forming an active humanitarian diplomacy network is a powerful tool for effective and constructive interaction with other international actors and can ultimately help national Socities in providing better and wider humanitarian services.
