IRCS plan for responding to disasters caused by climate change

JEDDAH, 23 July 2023 (IRCS) - The representatives of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) have taken part in the 5th consultation meeting between ICIC and RC/RC Societies in OIC members states.

Dr. Yaghoub Soleimani, the IRCS Secretary General, and Raziyeh Alishvandi, IRCS Under Secretary General for International Affairs and International Humanitarian Law Division are currently in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to attend the event.

The meeting will commence today and continue until Wednesday, 26 July.

On July 25th, the IRCS representatives will present their plan called "Capacity building of the National Societies of Muslim countries to increase preparedness in response to disasters". The plan focuses on the negative effect of climate change on disasters.

As a major Society in responding to disasters, the experiences and developments of the Iranian Red Crescent in a country that is prone to multiple natural disasters will be presented to the participants of the meeting.

Islamic Committee of the International Crescent (ICIC) consists of 18 National Red Crescent Red Cross Societies of the member countries in Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the Iranian Red Crescent is one of the members of this committee.
