IFRC Secretary General appreciates IRCS efforts in Arbaeen Hosseini

TEHRAN, 1 October 2023 (IRCS) – The secretary general of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) expressed gratitude to the president of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) for the support provided by the Society's staff, young members, and volunteers during the walking ceremony of Arbaeen Hosseini.

In a message to Pirhossein Kolivand, Mr. Jagan Chapagain acknowledged the valuable humanitarian services offered by the Iranian Red Crescent to pilgrims in the mass gathering of Arbaeen.

“This year, with the beginning of the Walking Ceremony of Arbaeen Hosseini, as one of the biggest mass gatherings in the holy city of Karbala, we witness the presence (around the clock) of the IRCS’ staff and volunteers providing valuable humanitarian services to those taking part in this mass gathering,” noted the IFRC secretary general in his message.

Mr Chapagain added that the staff and volunteers of IRCS continuously improve their abilities through learning lessons through previous experiences so that they are able to prevent, cope and control any challenges that arise during mass gatherings.

Furthermore, the IFRC secretary general thanked the president of the Iranian Red Crescent for managing the provision of key human support in mass gatherings and requested him to convey his appreciation to the staff, young members and volunteers of IRCS who have been involved in the walking ceremony of Arbaeen Hosseini.

The IFRC Secretary General's message was conveyed during a ceremony held by the Iranian Red Crescent on October 1 to honor the volunteers who assisted the Arbaeen pilgrims in Iraq this year.
