Red Crescent Analyses the Role of International Humanitarian Law in Gaza Tragedy

TEHRAN, 7 November 2023 (IRCS) – The Iranian Red Crescent Society arranged a meeting named "Analysis the Role of International Humanitarian Law in Gaza Tragedy" to address the humanitarian efforts towards the people of Gaza.

The meeting took place at the IRCS Peace Building, where Pirhossein Kolivand, the President of the IRCS, expressed the need for prompt action and provision of services to the Palestinians in order to provide aid and achieve a ceasefire in Gaza.

However, the IRCS has not yet received a response regarding humanitarian assistance for the people of Gaza. Kolivand mentioned that the Iranian Red Crescent Society has requested the establishment of a blood transfusion center in Gaza in collaboration with the Iranian Blood Transfusion Organization.

Despite collecting significant public contributions for Gaza, IRCS have been unable to send this aid due to various challenges, added Kolivand.

Mr Kolivand, as the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran's National Committee of Humanitarian Law, stated that the IRCS has asked both the International Committee of the Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to hold an urgent meeting regarding relief efforts in Gaza.

The meeting was attended by Kazem Gharibabadi, the Secretary of Iran's High Council for Human Rights, Dr. Zakerhossein, an Assistant Professor at the University of Tehran, Zohreh Elahian, the Head of the Human Law Committee in Iran's Parliament, and Khaled al-Qaddumi, the Representative of Hamas in Tehran.
