ICRC, IRCS Launch Training of Trainers Course on Psychosocial Support

TEHRAN, 25 August 2026 (IRCS) - Roman Paramonov, Deputy Head of Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Iran, said that aid workers’ capabilities extend beyond technical skills and that safeguarding their mental health is essential to delivering sustainable humanitarian responses.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Training of Trainers (ToT) Course on Delivering Psychosocial Support for Specialist Teams of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS), being held in Tehran from August 24 to 26, Paramonov stressed that supporting aid workers’ mental health is an integral part of sustainable humanitarian response and should be incorporated as a key component of operational planning.

The three-day workshop brings together psychologists from provinces across Iran. upon completing the training, they will transfer their knowledge to rescuers through a cascade-training approach, helping strengthen psychological preparedness throughout the IRCS emergency-response structure.

During the previous Persian calendar year, the IRCS and the ICRC jointly held four specialized mental health workshops and trained 160 staff members.
