Red Crescent helicopters help extinguish forest fires in four Provinces
TEHRAN, 30 May 2020 (IRCS) – Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) has been participating in operations to control pasture and forest fires in four southern, western and southwestern provinces of the country.
The operation is underway in pastures and forests of Iran’s southern province of Bushehr, western province of Lorestan and southwestern provinces of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad and Khuzestan. Red Crescent relief helicopters joined the operation on May 28. According to Mahdi Valipour, Acting Head of the IRCS Relief and Rescue Organisation, the Society as a part of the extinguishing operation has used three relief helicopters, transferring 37 relief workers and volunteers to the scene, carrying 2,500 kg items and taking one injured person to a medical centre. IRCS’ MI-171 helicopters are able to carry 15-20 relief workers and 4 tons of relief items while Bell 205 helicopters can carry five relief workers and 500 kg of relief items. Furthermore, each helicopter is capable of carrying a maximum of 12 wounded and injured passengers.
