After the unbridled outbreak of the coronavirus in Sistan and Baluchestan, Kerman is one of the provinces that is witnessing a high number of deaths of patients due to the pandemic.
The image of mass graves of coronavirus patients in Kerman which has been published by the local media indicates the extremely critical situation in Kerman.
Volunteers who have been active in Sistan and Baluchestan are also mindful of Kerman. Regardless of their specialty and field of activities, Volunteers of the Red Crescent are making every effort along doctors, nurses and everyone else involved to alleviate the pain of their compatriots, by participating and supporting nurses in patient care to the provision of medical supplies for inpatients and outpatients.
Every hour, the death tool from coronavirus in Kerman increases. Most family members are infected and hospitalized.
“The death of a member means his loneliness under these circumstances, and we will not allow our fellow citizens and compatriots to leave the world like this,” says Mostafa Salehi, a 32-year-old volunteer from Kerman, with a sad voice.
His friends are working elsewhere. Hossein and Alireza provide juice and vitamin supplies among the patients. Hossein, 25, is a Red Crescent volunteer. He has undergone first aid training in university and can do injection for patients. “Our medical and nursing staff are exhausted. Hospitals have admitted patients in excess of their capacity. A large number of patients are hospitalized at home and need help with injections. Most of the trained volunteers have come to the field and help their fellow citizens,” says Hossein.
Volunteering Resources and Social Activities Office of the Kerman provincial Red Crescent branch is one of the most crowded parts of the Society. The number of patients who refer to the office to receive support is increasing day by day. One is in need of medical treatments and the other is in need of medical equipment such as a ventilator for a patient who is hospitalized in his house.
“Corona is very common in Kerman and if it were not for the voluntary activities of the Red Crescent and the benefactors, the medical sector would have been much more exhausted,” says Fatemeh Yazdanizadeh, Head of Volunteering Resources and Social Activities Office in Kerman provincial Red Crescent.
The number of patients with Coronavirus has increased dramatically. In addition to the capacity of public hospitals, even the capacity of private hospitals has been used in Kerman, and arrangements have been made for the needy patients so that Red Crescent would pay for their treatment costs.
“A significant part of the medical equipment needs of the inpatients is provided through the Red Crescent, and we try as much as we can to ensure that families will have no concerns,” she added.
Kerman provincial Red Crescent branch is concerned about providing equipment and various support services to the patients with Coronavirus in remote villages and deprived areas just like major cities. “Together with teams of volunteers and benefactors, we have visited remote rural areas in the province, and while screening and identifying patients, their treatment has also been provided,” says Yazdanizadeh.
All Red Crescent volunteers and officials participate in combating the outbreak.
Reza Fallah, Head of the Kerman provincial Red Crescent branch, says: “We try our best to be with the people in the extremely critical conditions of the outbreak in Kerman, and we try to improve the situation by providing needs of the patients.”
600 Red Crescent volunteers in Kerman have been participating in operations such as screening the potential infected cases, inviting people to observe health protocols and distributing food parcels among needy families. So far, 13,000 livelihood parcels have been distributed among the needy in Kermaan and volunteers are sewing protective masks for people.
