ICRC and IRCS Emphasize Need for Greater Action to Resolve Gaza Crisis
TEHRAN, 30 July 2025 (IRCS) - The Head of the ICRC Delegation in Iran met with the Under Secretary-‎General for International Affairs and International Humanitarian Law of the Iranian Red Crescent ‎Society (IRCS) to discuss ways to solve the humanitarian Gaza crisis.‎
During the meeting on July 30, 2025, the two parties discussed IRCS initiatives condemning Israel’s actions in Gaza. These included sending letters to the Presidents of the ICRC and WHO, as well as to National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, urging facilitated aid delivery to Gaza.  Ms. Alishavandi, IRCS Under Secretary-General for International Affairs and International Humanitarian Law, stated: “This meeting was convened following a letter from the President of the Iranian Red Crescent Society to the ICRC President regarding IHL violations by the Zionist regime during the 12-day war. Both sides agreed that these violations will be investigated and documented by an ICRC assessment team in Iran.”  She also thanked ICRC President Ms. Mirjana Spoljaric for her recent statement emphasizing the need to end the Gaza crisis.  For his part, Mr. Vincent Cassard, Head of the ICRC Delegation in Iran, acknowledged the IRCS’s efforts in supporting victims of Israel’s June 2025 airstrikes on Iran.  He described the suffering in Gaza as unprecedented, stating: “The inhumane conditions in Gaza are unacceptable. We are all working together to end this situation. Current ICRC efforts remain insufficient, as evidenced by the ongoing suffering. Families in Gaza lack safe place, underscoring the urgent need for intensified action. Governments must take decisive political steps to resolve this crisis.”
