IOM Seeks Cooperation with IRCS
TEHRAN, 19 October 2025 (IRCS) – The UN International Organization for Migration (IOM) is keen to begin cooperating with the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS).
In a meeting between Pir Hossein Kolivand, President of the IRCS, and Iori Kato, IOM Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, held in the IRCS Peace Building, Mr. Kolivand stated that the IRCS, relying on its forces, alleviates suffering, empowers people, and saves the lives of refugees. “In some countries, immigrants are treated the worst, but Iran has treated immigrants in a moral and humane manner. We care about the dignity of immigrants, and therefore education is on the agenda,” Kolivand said. Referring to the “Red Crescent House,” the IRCS president noted that Red Crescent House conducts relief and social work nationwide and is considered to have strong capacity for empowering migrants and vulnerable groups. For his part, Mr. Kato said that the Red Crescent and IOM share common objectives and that these goals can underpin cooperation. The Iranian Red Crescent has been successful in various fields and possesses a high capacity for collaboration. “The Iranian Red Crescent volunteer network is known globally, and we have repeatedly witnessed its rapid response to disasters and its effective presence in global arenas,” added Kato. He also noted that we are ready to cooperate comprehensively with the Iranian Red Crescent, and that this cooperation can yield favorable results. Managing and coordinating assistance in refugee and migrant camps is an important priority that can be put on the agenda.
