In a virtual meeting between Pir Hossein Kolivand, President of the IRCS, and Hossam Elsharkawi, IFRC Regional Director for the MENA region, the two parties discussed collaborative efforts, including the development of a relief fleet of the IRCS and the holding of international events. During the meeting, Mr. Kolivand presented two proposals: hosting the International Youth Conference of Islamic Countries in Tehran and the Conference of Heads of National Societies of Islamic Countries. These events will focus on reviewing the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and new technologies in armed conflicts. Mr. Kolivand also emphasized the need to accelerate the implementation of memorandums of understanding (MoUs) between the IRCS and the IFRC to further broaden the scope of educational, logistical, and operational cooperation. Furthermore, Mr. Elsharkawi congratulated Dr. Kolivand on his re-election as President of the Iranian Red Crescent. He praised Mr. Kolivand’s influential role in international decision-making and recognized Iran as a key player both regionally and globally today.
